Roost development, Zug, Switzerland, 2004–2007 and 2010–2013

Four long houses span a generous green space between them – an axis that forms the centre of the complex. The addresses of the houses are marked by extremely striking entrance portals, which act as massive bridges over the steep topography of the upper two houses.

 

The façades draw their powerful architectural effect from the length of the buildings. The pastel pale colouring of the filigree railings, the delicate steel columns and the ceiling undersides lend the houses lightness. White lacquered corrugated fiber cement facade panels, and blue & white striped balcony awnings round off the overall Mediterranean atmosphere.

A well-proven apartment type prevails: It features a spacious kitchen-living room, a circular walk around the central bathroom core and a very clear zoning in day and night areas. The attic floors of the lower two houses offer an elevated standard of finish – at the request of the building owner.

In the houses on Fridbachweg 5–9 and Fridbachweg 19–23, exclusively the shell construction and the facades were executed after the plans of Gmür & Geschwentner architects.
