Conversion of the residential and office building Susenbergstrasse, Zurich, Switzerland, 1999–2000
The building was constructed in the 1970s and is located on the prestigious Zürichberg hill. Despite unfavourable spatial conditions, representative offices had to be installed in the garden floor, most of which was below ground level. The new circulation zone penetrates the originally chamber-like floor plan. At the location of the greatest depth of the building, daylight falls through an atrium into the interior of the underground floor. The interior design is characterised by an exquisite materialisation which, in combination with the lighting concept, gives the rooms the desired elegant character. The front garden gains an appropriate generosity with purposefully placed plants.
